De Gillett Cox

Looking for something joyful to brighten your walls, your home—or your mood? You’re in the right place.

I’m De Gillett Cox, and everything you see here begins as one of my original paintings, inspired by the wild beauty of Australian birds, flowers, and the glorious messiness of life itself. From limited edition prints and painterly homewares to vibrant fabrics and even puzzles, this space is for anyone who believes their home should be as full of joy as their heart.

What I sell

Art from my heart that’s made its way onto all sorts of lovely things:
Original paintings limited edition fine art prints (our top pick for first-timers!)

Why you will love it

Because it feels like a breath of fresh air.
My work is made to be understood, loved, and lived with. No art degrees required—just a love of colour, connection, and beauty. Many collectors say their confidence has grown just by choosing something that feels right—and seeing their friends swoon over it.

The Journey

My creative journey began at age four, shaping sandcastles and crafting
puppets, completely immersed in the joy of making.
From my days in remote Far North Queensland to my life now in Meanjin (Brisbane), my art has
evolved through so many mediums—graphite and pastels, clay and bronze
sculpture, oils and inks, and now acrylic painting. In 2012, I took my passion to the next level, attaining a
Bachelor of Fine Art at Queensland College of Art Griffith University.
I’ve discovered my own methods, experimenting with textures and glazing, forcing paint through delicate doilies to create intricate patterns, and cutting hundreds of hand-drawn stencils to build depth and
movement. Each step has been a new adventure, a new way to explore
colour, form, and texture, and I’m still just as excited to create as I was when I
first shaped a castle from sand.

The Creative Process

My creative process is all about mixing precision with playful experimentation.
I use hand-drawn stencils and texture paste to create exciting layers and
patterns, and I love glazing with vibrant, translucent colours that give each
piece a glowing energy.
Over the years, I've developed some totally new techniques, like flooding inks into textured surfaces
to create cool, unexpected effects, and letting transparent colours flow across wet linen, adding depth
and movement. I work in layers, building up rich, lively textures until the
painting is bursting with colour and life.
What I love most are the
surprises—there’s no way I could ever dream up anything as beautifully
complex as what is delivered by the laws of flow and physics. It’s always a
little bit magical, watching how the materials interact and reveal something
even better than I imagined!

Celebrating Abundance

The excitable way I work is all about embracing the richness of life, nature,
and colour. I pour energy into every brushstroke, capturing the lush vibrancy
of the world around me.
Whether it’s the full bloom of a flower, the vibrant
colours of a bird, or the endless beauty of a landscape, I aim to show the
overflowing joy that comes with being surrounded by so much life and possibility.
The textures, layers, and bold colours are all a reflection of the
abundance we often overlook, but that’s always there, waiting to be
celebrated. Each piece is a burst of life, full of movement, light, and the kind of
energy that feels almost like it could spill right off the canvas.
